How to Edit an Image Online: Crop, Draw and Add Layers
Last updated
For a quick graphic or photo adjustment, you can edit directly in your browser. Smart Online Tools' image editor supports a visual crop, drawing, movable text and shapes, image overlays, color adjustments and undo/redo.
Steps
- Choose a JPG, PNG, WebP or supported AVIF image.
- Use Crop and drag over the area to keep, or rotate and flip the base image.
- Add text, a shape, a drawing or another image layer. Select an item to move, resize or delete it.
- Adjust brightness, contrast, saturation or a filter, then export as PNG, JPEG or WebP.
Build a simple composition
Add text for a label or title, then drag it into place. Add a shape to make a callout or outline, or add an image layer for a logo or sticker. Use the Layers list to hide or select overlays while arranging the canvas.
Use undo if an edit goes wrong. Cropping applies to the visible design and flattens current layers, so finish positioning overlays before applying the crop.
Pick an export format
PNG is useful when you need transparency or sharp graphic edges. JPEG is widely compatible for photos but has no transparency. WebP can be compact, though some older apps do not accept it. Open the exported image in its destination app before replacing your original.
Large source images can use a lot of memory. The editor supports files up to 25 MB and 24 megapixels, and export is capped at 24 megapixels.
Common questions
Can I edit the original file directly?
No. The editor downloads a new copy and leaves your original unchanged.
Can I keep transparent areas?
Export PNG to preserve transparency. JPEG replaces transparent areas with a solid background.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Image editing happens in your browser.
