How to Merge PDFs Into One File

Last updated

Merging PDFs is useful for sending one tidy document instead of five attachments, such as an application with its supporting papers. You can do it without installing software, and with a browser-based tool the files stay on your device.

Steps

  1. Open the PDF Merge tool and add your files.
  2. Put the files in the order you want using the arrow buttons.
  3. Select Merge PDFs, then download the combined file.
  4. Open the result and scroll through it to check the order.

Tips for a clean result

Name your files so the order is obvious before you start, for example 01-cover.pdf, 02-report.pdf. It makes mistakes easy to spot.

If one file is a scan, the merged file will be large. Run the result through PDF Compress afterwards if you need to email it.

When merging does not work

Password-protected PDFs cannot be read by the tool, so remove the password in the program that created them first. Corrupt files are reported by name so you can leave them out.

Bookmarks, form fields and links inside the original files may not survive a merge. Check anything interactive in the final document.

Common questions

Are my files uploaded?

No. Merging happens in your browser and the files never leave your device.

Is there a limit on the number of files?

The tool shows its limits on the page. Very large files depend on your device’s memory.
