How to Generate a QR Code for a Link, Wi-Fi or Contact
Last updated
A QR code is just your data drawn as a pattern. The code made here is static: it contains the text itself, so it never expires and nothing tracks who scans it.
Steps
- Open the QR Code Generator and pick a type: text or URL, Wi-Fi, or contact card.
- Fill in the details and check the preview.
- Download the PNG.
- Scan it with a phone before printing.
What to put in it
For a link, paste the full address including https://. For Wi-Fi, enter the network name, password and security type so guests can join by scanning. A contact card stores a name, phone, email and organisation.
Shorter content makes a simpler code that is easier to scan. If a code looks very dense, shorten the text or link.
Printing tips
Keep strong contrast, dark on light, and leave a blank margin around the code. Do not stretch it, and test the printed size from the distance people will scan it.
To see which campaign a scan came from, add tracking tags to the link first with the UTM Builder, then turn that link into a code.
Common questions
Does the QR code expire?
No. A static code holds your data directly and works as long as the destination does.
Can I read a code from a picture?
Yes, use the QR Code Reader with an image file.
