URL Decoder

Decode an encoded URL component, including UTF-8 text, back into its readable form.

Decode a percent-encoded URL component back into readable text. This works on a component, not a complete URL.

URL encoding is not encryption. Conversion is local to this browser.

How it works

  1. Paste the encoded URL component.
  2. Select URL Decoder.
  3. Copy the decoded value.

Good to know: A plus sign is not converted to a space by URI component decoding. For form-encoded query strings, plus signs have a separate convention.

Privacy and processing

Decode percent-encoded text

Percent escapes such as %20 represent bytes in a URL component. The decoder interprets those bytes as UTF-8 text and reports malformed sequences instead of silently changing them.

Query strings submitted as form data sometimes represent spaces with plus signs. URI component decoding keeps plus signs literal, so decode form-encoded data with the matching form convention in your application.
